YIPPEE!!

IT IS FINALLY FRIDAY!! The long awaited last day of chemo AND radiation combined. (Yeah, we'll need to do the chemo later but it won't be for 96 hours straight with only weekends off. Besides, I'm on a high right now!)

I am so proud of Chuck!

He has faced this cancer head-on (we really know it was "butt-on" but that sounds a bit weird) and is winning the battle with strength, determination, faith, and a positive mental attitude. He has had to overcome some fears that, before this diagnosis, he would probably have just shied away from. While he still doesn't "enjoy" them, he does what is needed to get to the next step in this crazy healing process. I am amazed that in his weakened state he was able to perform the treadmill stress test and didn't need to do the chemical. I am in awe that he has been going to work during all five weeks - especially this last one when he's been so exhausted it takes all of his energy to eat a meal or get ready for the day. He has had to listen to what his lifestyle changes will be for after surgery - that will last the rest of his life. His survival spirit and his unfailing faith keeps him strong and just seems to prove that God will not give you more than you can bear and, consequently, you end up surprising yourself to see what you DID accomplish.

Chuck has been very concerned about becoming a burden to me and those around him. I have explained that: first, he's not and second, that's a negative attitude and will NOT be allowed. If he were someone who complained about every little ache, pain, sniffle, needle prick, doctor's hand, blood test, etc, etc, etc, THEN he would be a burden. But he doesn't do that nor has he through any of this. When you think about it, for someone going through all he has, is or will be, to be more worried about others is unselfish. I want him to concentrate on getting well. Let those of us around him concentrate on doing what we can to help him get well. That does not describe a "burden" to me.

Our task is pretty easy - it's to support!

Chuck's task is much harder - it's to conquer!

Maybe his chant should be (can you hear it now)...

....ALL HAIL THE CONQUERING HERO!

That's great that you've completed Week 5! I know it hasn't been easy, but that is now one huge part of this process that is over, and you can now move on from here one step closer to beating this thing! I'm so proud of how you guys have been handling this, and continue to pray for your health and happiness. Can't wait to see you on your birthday, Dad!

It was so good to be able to talk with Chuck "in person". That way I am reassured about his strength and courage.

Things are great! AHTCH (no, I am not sneezing)

Love from NY
