Hard Day Today

I was out gardening this weekend and saw two sets of our neighbors and caught them up on our latest news. The ones behind us, Mo and Tony, I thought had already been told as Scott often sees Mo when she’s dropping Natalie off at school. He hadn't spoken with her about Chuck so I caught them up. (Tony might be another candidate for our colonoscopy campaign!) Then I saw Kathy from across the street (her daughter Malory and Marcia grew up together) and let her in on Chuck's news, too. Kathy has been going through her own battles over the last few years between breast cancer, appendicitis in November and contracting six different bacterial infections all at the same time.

Kathy mentioned that Chuck is the 11th person in the neighborhood to be diagnosed with cancer over the last five years. I had not been aware of anyone else other than Kathy herself so imagine my surprise! Then, when I came inside to let Chuck know I had told Kathy, what movie is he watching? Erin Brockovich. Hey, think it's due to OUR water since there have been so many in a relatively small area??

I think that today was a hard day for Chuck. It was the first time since we started this journey that he questioned if he had the strength to continue - that he didn't know how much more he could take. His sleep patterns have changed the last few days. He is up every hour or two so he's not getting the rest he needs. He's not been able to sleep much during the day, either. He's still spending a lot of time in the bathroom. (Yesterday he read his emails standing up! Only so much he can sit or lay down!) I know that it stills weighs on his mind that he can't due the little things he's use to doing for himself. And, he wants to stop hurting!

All I could do was hold him while he cried. There were no words that I could say to easy ANY of the pain he is experiencing be it physical, mental or emotional.

So, I suggested he start taking Imodium again to cut back the number of trips to the bathroom and maybe, just maybe, he'll be able to sleep a few more hours in a row! Maybe, with a bit more sleep under his belt, he will be able to weather this "glitch".

We leave for Florida in 8 days! We are SOOOOO looking forward to that!
